About the Project:

Revolutionizing Livestock Education through Sustainability and Innovation

PROFARMED (Advancing Precision Livestock Farming Education) is an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in Higher Education project designed to address critical gaps in livestock farming education. As the sector faces rapid technological transformation and growing sustainability demands, the need to modernize academic approaches has never been greater.

The primary mission of PROFARMED is to enhance higher education by integrating cutting-edge knowledge, practices, and tools of Precision Livestock Farming (PLF). This is achieved by developing and deploying a multi-faceted, practical learning system tailored to the modern needs of students, educators, and professionals in the agricultural field.

To achieve this, the project is committed to creating:

  • A comprehensive Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) curriculum that incorporates the latest advancements in sustainable farming and animal management.
  • Practical, thematic educational modules that explore the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of livestock farming through real-world applications.
  • An innovative, multilingual digital learning platform that ensures broad accessibility and supports flexible, self-directed learning paths.
  • Pilot testing of educational content across partner universities to validate its effectiveness and relevance within academic programs.
  • A collaborative and networked community of PLF practitioners, educators, and learners who share knowledge and promote innovation across Europe.
  • At its core, PROFARMED promotes a holistic educational approach that emphasizes economic viability, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability equipping the next generation of agricultural professionals to lead with knowledge, ethics, and impact.

Our Approach:

From Analysis to Action: A Multiphase Educational Strategy

PROFARMED is organized around five interconnected Work Packages, each playing a strategic role in delivering high-impact educational outcomes.

  • PLF Blueprint Development

This initial phase lays the foundation for the project by conducting a comprehensive State-of-the-Art Report on existing PLF education practices. The team gathers insights from across Europe to identify successful models and methodologies. A stakeholder roundtable is organized to bring together experts and practitioners, who help validate the research and shape the direction of the curriculum.

  • Thematic Curriculum Design & Pilot Testing

Building on the blueprint, the consortium develops three dedicated thematic modules focused on the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of livestock farming. These modules incorporate real-world case studies and are enriched with interactive educational tools. To ensure quality and usability, the content is pilot tested across multiple universities, involving both educators and students.

  • E-Learning Platform – The PROFARMED Hub

At the heart of the digital transformation is the PROFARMED Hub — an open-access, multilingual learning platform designed to facilitate flexible, learner-centered education. The platform includes the PROFARM-ME tool, allowing users to create personalized learning paths. Interactive elements such as quizzes, video tutorials, and certification tracks enhance user engagement.

  • Training & Support for Educators

Recognizing the need to empower teaching staff, this phase offers specialized training for professors and academic facilitators. Educators are equipped with modern digital pedagogical tools and are encouraged to co-create educational content. This collaborative spirit ensures alignment with student needs and teaching realities.

  • Dissemination & Impact

To ensure that the results of PROFARMED reach a wide audience, this final package focuses on communication and outreach. The consortium hosts multiplier events, webinars, and conferences to present results and gather feedback. Engagement is extended beyond the academic world to include professional bodies and civil society, ensuring real-world impact and sustainability of outcomes.
